Covenant Christian High School
Our Academic Philosophy
At CCHS, we follow the Renaissance and Reformation tradition of Ad Fontes (“back to the sources”). By reading the great books of history, we integrate literature and history in a seamless way that allows literature to come alive through its historical context and enriches the study of history through the cultural insights gained by engaging deeply with literature.Following a three-year cycle through the Western tradition (Ancient, Medieval, Modern), our students are encouraged to seek truth wherever it may be found, recognizing God’s providential hand in all aspects of life.
We emphasize a strong writing curriculum, holding that good writing is evidence of good thinking. In keeping with the rhetorical tradition of the trivium, students are never passive participants; they are consistently encouraged to question, analyze, and think through the lessons of literature and history as they develop their own understanding. With this emphasis on rhetoric, the virtues are woven into every lesson. Students are required to demonstrate prudence in their speech, temperance in their actions, fortitude in their studies, and justice toward their fellow students, while always exhibiting faith, hope, and love for God through a deep understanding of Him and the things He has created.
Our students are expected to work diligently and to succeed within an academically rigorous environment, knowing that the soul of the diligent will be richly supplied. However, we do not assign busywork to create the illusion of an academic image. By strengthening their time-management skills and cultivating the virtues of prudence and temperance, students are able to observe the Lord’s Day and enjoy meaningful family time while still achieving a high academic standard.
